Fuengirola
Fuengirola, which is just 10 minutes away from Malaga Airport, sits on the shores of the Mediterranean Sea and is linked to the capital of the province, Malaga, and the rest of the country via the A-7 Motorway. It is just a few kilometres away from Benalmadena and Torremolinos, and less than an hour away from Marbella. Fuengirola gathers tourists from a variety of countries in a place that acts as the perfect start point for exploring the Costa del Sol.
History
For hundreds of years, the stunning enclave Fuengirola occupies has attracted and amazed many Mediterranean civilisations who reached this coastal area. The town’s eight kilometres of beaches, which are integrated within the historic centre, boast Blue Flag status, as awarded by the European Union in recognition of the stunning quality of their waters and sands. In fact, in 2009 Fuengirola became the only town in Spain to have 100% of its beaches named Blue Flag beaches. The town’s wonderful beachfront promenade opens out to the sea with an immense balcony while it also offers many gastronomy and recreational options.
